PRINCE WILLIAM NAMES ROAM AS ONE OF THE FINALISTS IN THE RUNNING FOR THE £1,000,000 EARTHSHOT PRIZE
- Roam is thrilled to be short-listed as finalists for the EarthShot Prize Award, the most prestigious global environment prize in history, founded by Prince William and The Royal Foundation.
- The award aims to discover, celebrate and scale innovative solutions to the greatest environmental challenges facing our planet. Winners of the award are granted 1 million pounds as a prize to support them in their quest for a more sustainable future.
- This recognization goes a long way in helping us as Roam to incentivise change within Kenya's mobility industry and to actualize a future free of polluting diesel engines.
Prince William has today named Roam as one of the worldwide finalists of the Earthshot Prize. This is a global environmental initiative that finds and spotlights ground-breaking solutions across the world with the potential to fix the climate crisis.
This is the second annual Earthshot Prize Finalist list and Roam is proud to be the only African electric mobility company to be listed. This speaks to our mission to offer electric mobility solutions that support emission reduction targets, putting Africa firmly on a trajectory towards a stable climate.
The EarthShot Prize is centered on five environmental goals that are to, Protect and Restore Nature, Clean our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Fix our Climate. Roam has been shortlisted in the Clean Our Air category. Five of the eventual winners will be selected by the Earthshot Prize Council comprising of influential individuals committed to championing positive environmental action such as Jack Ma, Dr Ngozi Okonjo - Iweala, and Sir David Attenborough.
As COP27 approaches, this acknowledgement by EarthShot is exactly in line with our objectives to accelerate action towards fighting climate change. As one of the shortlisted nominees Roam will receive tailored support and opportunities to help scale our work from the Earthshot Prize Global Alliance, a network of organisations that share the ambition of the Prize to repair the planet. We are taking on the hard challenge of transport decarbonization and we’re glad to have the support of such a prestigious institution. The Earthshot Prize awards ceremony will take place on Friday, December 2nd in Boston. It will air across Africa on Multichoice and on YouTube on Sunday, December 4th 2022.
