ROAM ELECTED TO CHAIR THE ELECTRIC MOBILITY SUB-SECTOR FOR KAM, STRENGTHENING COMMITMENT TO LOCAL MANUFACTURING

The Electric Mobility Sub-Sector within the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) has elected Hans van Toor from Roam and Matt Lloyd from AVA as its new Chair and Vice-Chair. This development supports Kenya's goal of creating a more sustainable and future-proof electric mobility industry, emphasizing the importance of local manufacturing and signaling a strong commitment to driving local value creation and clean industry jobs.

By focusing on building a sustainable electric mobility sector, this initiative aims to spur both industrial growth and environmental sustainability, with the manufacturing sector playing a crucial role in this transformation due to its significant job creation potential.

With the election of van Toor and Lloyd, KAM’s Electric Mobility Sub-Sector is set to prioritize local manufacturing and the development of a robust supply chain for electric vehicles and associated technologies. This approach aligns with Kenya’s broader goal of increasing the manufacturing sector's contribution to GDP, which currently faces challenges.

The new leadership will focus on strengthening local manufacturing to reduce Kenya's reliance on imports and position the country as a regional leader in electric mobility. By developing a sustainable, localized industry, the sub-sector aims to create opportunities for Small and Midsize enterprises (SMEs) and expand sustainable industry jobs.
