ROAM'S ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE PRESENTED TO PRESIDENT WILLIAM RUTO AT BODA CARE LAUNCH EVENT
- Today at KICC, Roam had the honour of showcasing to H.E President William Ruto Kenya’s first locally designed and assembled electric motorcycle, the Roam Air.
- This was during the President’s launch of Boda Boda Care, an initiative focused on enhancing the welfare of motorcycle taxi operators in Kenya, targeting over 200,000 boda-boda riders.
- In tandem with Boda Care, which is moving the needle towards an electric boda boda sector, a bill that seeks to make electric motorcycles even more accessible to Kenyans was signed into law today.
Roam got His Excellency William Ruto’s stamp of electric approval at the boda care launch event, earlier today, as they introduced to him Kenya’s first-ever locally produced electric motorcycle, the Roam Air.
At the heart of Roam's exhibit was their electric motorcycle, a true testament to their dedication to transforming urban mobility that took centre stage as one of two electric motorcycle brands at the event. This represents a significant step forward in the quest for sustainable transportation solutions. Its sleek design, powerful performance, and zero-emission profile make it a game-changer in the motorcycle industry.
In an effort to educate the boda boda community on electric mobility as well as encourage universal health coverage, the president launched the boda boda care program that boosts of a free one-year medical cover courtesy of NHIF as well as free first responder training to riders.
The empowerment and capacity-building programme follows the government's Boda Boda reforms in 2022 and aims to ensure that boda boda riders across the country adhere to the laws and regulations stipulated by NTSA.
Before the President’s attendance at the launch event, in a move that will surely make electric motorcycles and buses more accessible to the public, he signed into law a bill that favours local manufacturing of electric mobility products.
The bill includes an electric vehicle exemption from input VAT, excise duty exemption for locally assembled motorcycles, electric vehicle batteries exemption from both VAT and import duty as well as CKD and SKD corporate tax reduction to 15%.
