About the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team. You will play a central role in designing, testing, and refining the mechanical systems of our electric motorcycles and buses. From concept to production, you will ensure that each Roam vehicle is engineered for durability, performance, and ease of maintenance in real-world African conditions.
This is a hands-on role suited for an engineer who thrives in fast-paced, cross-functional teams and has a deep understanding of vehicle dynamics, structural design, and production processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop vehicle mechanical systems including chassis, drivetrain components, suspension, and enclosures.
- Perform structural analysis, simulations, and durability testing to validate design performance.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, and industrial designers to ensure cohesive integration of mechanical systems.
- Produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation for manufacturing and assembly.
- Oversee prototyping, field testing, and design validation activities for new vehicles or components.
- Implement design-for-manufacture principles to improve scalability and reduce costs.
- Support continuous product improvement based on field feedback and data from deployed vehicles.
- Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to ensure material specifications and part quality meet standards.
- Ensure compliance with local and international safety regulations and manufacturing standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in vehicle engineering, preferably in two-wheelers or commercial vehicles.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Onshape) and FEA software.
- Strong understanding of materials, fatigue, vibration analysis, and structural design.
- Experience with low-volume or modular vehicle production is a plus
- Familiarity with electric vehicle systems and sustainable transport is an advantage.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach to design and testing.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly document and present work.
